Holding Time: A celebration of breastfeeding

Improving Me has been working with visual artist Lisa Creagh and the Open Eye Gallery to create the Holding Time project. The exhibition, as part of a wider show called Ecology of Care, features local mothers sharing their stories, as both a celebration of breastfeeding and an exploration of the challenges mothers can experience. It's success has led to Arts Council England funding to tour the North of England and establish a permanent exhibition.

While the benefits of breastfeeding are known, there are many physical, mental, societal and cultural factors that get in the way. We know that breastfeeding rates in the UK are low, and that this is much further impacted for mothers raising children in socio-economically deprived areas.

As well as the ongoing exhibition, Holding Time will also be hosting a free events over the coming month, including:

  • 8 October 2-5pm - Maternity Wellbeing Fair
  • 8/15/22 October 10am-12noon - Writing workshops

You can find out more by visiting the Holding Time website, you can also see the videos with local mothers and more at their YouTube channel. The Open Eye Gallery can be found at 19 Mann Island, Liverpool Waterfront.
