Reducing health inequalities through Core20PLUS5

As part of the National Healthcare Inequalities Improvement programme, Core20PLUS ambassadors are being appointed to promote the importance of reducing inequalities across the healthcare system.

We are pleased to announce that, Jo Hunt, Lead Midwife for Health Inequalities for WHaM, has been appointed as an ambassador and will be a representative for Cheshire and Merseyside within the programme.

The ambassadors will be supported to form local, regional and national networks with others who seek to address healthcare inequalities, with a focus on:

  • The Core20 - the 20% of the population experiencing the greatest levels of deprivation.
  • The PLUS - representing locally defined populations of additional need, recognising the varying needs of different regions with their own distinct demographic and geographic challenges.
  • The 5 - the areas of clinical focus; maternity, severe mental illness, chronic respiratory disease, early cancer diagnosis, hypertension case-finding and optimal management and lipid optimal management.
